Wisdom Wednesdays: Create Hope by Taking Action

Joan Baez has told us that “action is the antidote for despair”.

Greta Thunberg speaking of how knowledge of the climate crisis saddened her, claims that it was action that helped her. “When we start to act, hope is everywhere. So, instead of looking for hope-look for action. Then the hope will come.”

There is so much in our world at this time capable of de-energizing us and dragging us down. The daily news can leave us with a feeling of heaviness capable of paralyzing us if we let it, so what is the remedy?

Take a small action!

COVID-19 is still around and we are entering the flu season. Wear a mask and help yourself and others.

COP27 was less than what we all hoped for, but continue to pray for climate justice.

The war in Ukraine continues, so in your prayers, implore Mary, and Queen of Peace, to intercede.

There are workers who are not receiving a just wage; sign a petition and show your support.

Design and choose your own personal response to the pain in our world and carry it out, alone or with others. Each step you take is progress on a path. There will come hope.

Clarissa Pinkola Estés, an American poet, reminds us:

“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good.”

So what action will you take today?
